Yes: Yes, you can.. Just avoid excessive use.. It is consider class b for pregnancy, which means that studies in animals showed no harm to fetus. No human studies are available. Given the fact that sickle cell pain is quite severe and recurrent, it is permissible to take it as needed while limiting its use to times when it is necessary. Good luck..

Tough question: We do not recommend opioid use in pregnant women chronically, as infants will be born with symptoms of addiction known as neonatal abstinence syndrome that can result in prolonged hospitalization for the infant. However, sickle cell anemia with vasoocclusive crisis can be very painful condition that requires opioids for pain management. My recommendation is to use opioids only when pain is bad.
