Needs consultation: Any child with a persistent stye or chalazion needs a consultation with an ophthalmologist to determine the underlying reason. "styes" generally develop in response to chronic eyelid gland inflammation. Treatment is aimed at not only treating the stye but preventing future problems as well. In extreme cases, styes may develop into cellulitis or skin infection requiring more intense treatment.
