Variety/balance: As long as he is growing and developing normal and has no lab indication of anemia or nutritional problems his milk intake is unlikely to cause health problems. It is important though at this age to introduce a variety of foods from all four food groups, including lean sources of protein other than milk. I certainly would: I recommend milk consumption limited to a maximum of 24 oz a day, because of high risk of iron deficiency associated with higher milk consumption. As you know the regular homogenized milk has very low iron content, and excessive milk intake satisfies small toddlers' hunger so that they tend not to eat other healthy foods. I also would ask his doctor to run a test called ferritin.
