Sounds like an old doctors tale or myth. Some breast feed up to several years old and have not heard of it causing anemia

That doc is misinformed. The anemia issue is triggered when enough cow milk protein/day begins to irritate the intestines and cause microscopic bleeding. It is not an issue with breast milk. As long as the kid pees every 6 hours or more he is not getting dehydrated. There is fluid value in much that they consume.

If baby is eating a variety of foods, including some finger foods, the equivalent of three 8 oz cups of milk may not be a problem. If baby is choosing breast over experimenting with solid foods (color, taste, texture variations) then I would recommend reducing the breastmilk. Even older children will breastfeed from time to time if offered, usually for comfort.
