EGD side-effects.: Typical side-effects of an upper endoscopy would include sore or scratchy throat as the most common, since the scope can scrape the back of the throat during the procedure. This can be relieved by ice chips afterwards, since they can reduce the swelling in that area. Other less common occurrences include mild to more severe aspiration, especially if there is gastroparesis present.
