A member asked:

My daughter had a tummy tuck a year ago. she was just diagnosed with bc. if she has a double mastectomy, can she have successful reconstruction since ?

Possibly: The tummy tuck will probably eliminate the use of tram flaps for reconstruction, but there are several methods available for post-mastetomy reconstruction. She'd need to be examined by an appropriate plastic surgeon to look at her scars and make that determination.

Yes: Having a tummy tuck does not interfere with breast reconstruction unless she wanted to use her abdominal tissue for the reconstruction. In most cases, tissue expander reconstruction would be performed. This gives excellent results with fast healing and normal resumption of her daily activities.
