A member asked:

Do thyroid levels rise or fall after childbirth in a woman?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Thyroid and pregnant: The placenta makes a hormone that is similar to the thyroid stimulating hormone that affects the thyroid gland. Therefore, in women with thyroid disease, their levels may go up and down during the pregnancy. They may need higher levels as the pregnancy progresses and less after delivery. Your doctor should monitor the levels while pregnant.
