A member asked:

My stitches were removed+ the doc said theres no infection. i showered and it got a lil soft and opened slightly+ is this ok? i have neosporin on it.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Throw away neosporin: Comparative studies show that sutured wounds heal better with vaseline (or aquaphor) than with neosporin or Bacitracin or any antibiotic. Also avoid peroxide, alcohol, iodine as these interfere with wound healing. You do not indicate the site or nature of the surgery, nor the degree of skin separation. I routinely use bioclusive membrane to strengthen a recent incision. Water is probably good fo.
