A member asked:

Ibuprofen. i read that you should take "stomach protection" before taking ibuprofen. what is meant by that?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

NSAID prophylaxis: Acid blocker medication, specifically the proton pump inhibitors like prilosec, prevacid, (lansoprazole) etc. Will reduce your risk of nsaid's (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, like ibuprofen) from causing their specific injury to the stomach (e.g. Nsaid gastropathy). Other risk factors, like age, past history of ulcers, h.Pylori, tobacco, etc., may potentiate the injurious effect of nsaid's on the gut.
