Many ways: 1st to consider, if you're being treated with stimulants, is exercise sleep other meds & diet. Exercise transiently increases brain function in adolescents. Restorative sleep is necessary for healthy brain performance. Consumption of caffeinated beverages and chocolate worsens brain function in adhd patients, & should be avoided. Antihistamines, some antibiotics, & decongestants should be avoided.

Genes: Most cases (> 95%) of adhd are inherited and worsened by prenatal events such as prematurity, smoking, neonatal illness or stress. Rarely, a brain injury or insult can result in "acquired" adhd. This would include chemobrainsuch as from cancer treatment, of after an infection such as meningitis or encephalitis, or an injury such as concussion or brain contusion or hematoma.

How can I assess for adhd?

Dr. Bac Nguyen

Do sample test ?s: There are many sample tests available online to test yourself to see if you may have adhd--for example, if you google "adhd test" you should get quite a few options to check it out. U can also consult your doc to get an assessment--he/she may use some of the "check-list' questions to see if u have adhd. There is no blood test/scan for adhd. Consult doc. Good luck.
