Could be Staph: Without seeing this and culturing it it is impossible to accurately diagnose. See a doctor and have them examine you. Good luck.

A 43-year-old member asked:

Does dairy in formula increase the frequency of ear infections and congestion?

Dr. Roy Benaroch
Pediatrics 27 years experience
No: That would be very rare. Dairy allergies can cause skin problems (hives or eczema), or more rarely gut problems (bloody diarrhea); there's also lactose intolerance, which occurs only in children and adults (never babies), which can cause diarrhea and abdominal pain. But food allergies very rarely cause nasal symptoms, congestion, or ear infections.

My baby is getting frequent ear infections. Is there any way to help prevent them?

Dr. Kathleen Forcier
Specializes in General Practice
Yes: Frequent ear infections are not only frustrating but can potentially affect language development. Breastfeeding, decreasing pacifier use, and giving your child the pneumococcal vaccine can all help prevent ear infections. Kids under 2 years old who have more than 3 ear infections in 6 months or more than 4 in 12 months may need to see an ear, nose and throat specialist.

Unlikely: With a large proportion of s. Pneumonii (most common bacteria causing middle ear infection) becoming resistant to penicillin, the mainstay of antibiotics treatment for "ear infection" is currently a high dose of amoxicillin.

Try Miralax (polyethylene glycol).: Miralax (polyethylene glycol) laxative powder is non habit forming and otc. 1 capful with any beverage daily may help with your regularity along with your fiber in your diet/fluids. 4 or more servings of fruits/veggies can help. Make sure you stool is soft and not hard, pellet like or large caliber. Neosporin ointment in the anal area 2 times dialy may improve you situation too.
A 42-year-old member asked:

Is little muscle pain after cycling considered to be a sign of insufficient protein in the body?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Thomas Namey
Rheumatology 48 years experience
No.: Geeting adequate nutritional support from increasing protein is good, but you are experiencing delayed soreness of exercise, which is common. One possibility is that your seat height adjustment is off. Aleve (naproxen) or Motrin should get rid of pain. If the pain is present longer than 2-3 days, you may have strained/sprained something, but you did not say where you hurt! see your pcx if pain persists!
