Maybe carpal tunnel?: There are 5, so if the 3 fingers you are referring are the thumb, index, and long finger- my first consideration would be carpal tunnel syndrome or compression of the median nerve at the wrist. This syndrome can also cause compression of the neighboring nerve (ulnar nerve) causing all fingers to go numb as the day progresses. This would likely be activity related as well.

Best to see Doctor: If it's not your pillow(s) causing this, or arm positioning over your head, then call your doctor, and have him/her examine, and test you. They can easily do a mini-neuro check on you to measure strength, coordination, and balance of both arms. So don't delay. You will have better peace of mind knowing what can be done, after s/he advises you.
