What size?: A lump we can feel we will always take seriously. It is not unusual to have small lymph node we can feel in the back of the neck, behind the big muscle there we call the Sternocleidomastoid. Some lumps are supposed to be there, like a saliva gland. If it's bigger than a pea or growing , go see your doctor, or an ENT, they will do an exam and help decide if this needs further treatment.

Nodes: yes it can be, lymph nodes respond to infections, and sometimes stay enlarged for a long time. If you are developing new node or have pain seek medical attention
