Pulsatile flow: Blood flows through the arteries in a pulsatile fashion, propelled by rhythmic contractions of the left ventricle. The pulsatile flow means that the pressure is higher in systole (when the heart contracts) and lower in diastole (when the heart relaxes). Systolic pressure is the peak pressure and diastolic pressure is the lowest pressure.
