Why is systolic pressure higher than diastolic?

Systolic blood : Pressure is essentially the pressure measured when the heart is contracting and ejecting blood while diastolic pressure is the pressure measured while the heart is relaxing and receiving blood . Therefore systolic BP is higher than diastolic pressure.
