Yes but...: X-rays can be taken, but any teeth covered with brackets, etc, will be blocked and not show up on the x-ray. Many dentists elect to forgo the x-rays at routine visits unless there is a problem or if you are susceptible to decay and don't clean the braces effectively.

X-rays with braces?: Yes, you can still have x-rays taken. Metal bands and bracket will block some of the areas of the teeth that are normally visible on x-rays. In certain cases we forgo taking x-rays when patients have orthodontic attachments, while in other cases it becomes more important to see on x-ray what we cannot with a visual examination. Your dentist would be the best one to determine the need for x-rays.

By all means: X-rays allow us to see areas not visible to the naked eye. If your dentist or your orthodontist feels an x-ray is necessary, they will also be glad to explain to you the information that they are seeking.
