See your doctor: You wrote that you had a previous bout of pneumonia. So if you're having symptoms that feel very similar to what you had before, you need to call your doctor and let them know. If so, follow your doctor's advice. However, the first thing that must be done is a complete pulmonary examination, that can only be done in person, by listening to your breath sounds, and possible repeat chest x-ray.

Cough: In general, a symptom of coughing can first be addressed by over the counter measures. Cough specific syrups or tablets are readily available. Decongestant medicines can help if the cough is related to sinus drainage. Giving the cough ample time to clear is advisable (up to 6 weeks) but if you develop fevers, shortness of breath, chest pains, or bloody sputum, then it is time to see the doctor.
