9 yr old daughter was dx with flu yesterday and given tamiflu. she now has a cough and complains of chest pain w/cough and when swallowing food or drink.could this be start of pneumonia? fever is 99.5-100.6.flu scares me as i know kids have died.

Yes: Flu can include an invasion of the lungs by the germ and an extensive outpouring of mucous triggering cough. It can and does get bad in some patients. Her age makes it likely she will beat this. As long as you can carry on a conversation with her, she drinks and feeds & shows no increasing breathing discomfort you can monitor at home. If this changes or she spooks you have her re-evaluated.
