Clostridium tetani: This bacteria can survive virtually anywhere because it forms spores when subjected to unfavorable environmental conditions, and these can persist for decades. Oxygen may inhibit the vegetative forms of the organism, but the spores will be impervious. It would, however, be unusual to find free spores in lake water because of the large diluent effect. In soil, very common.
