Effects Linger: "laughing gas" as it is known, is a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. The nitrous oxide has to be "cleared" from your blood stream and lungs once the practitioner has turned off the nitrous oxide. This is why the patient usually breathes only oxygen for some time after the procedure.
