Possible: Possible, but not common at -4 diopters of myopia. Sometimes the eyeball really is extra long and stretched out on the inside, but the cornea is flatter than normal. That situation can result in a condition such as you describe. A second opinion is always ok, but please do seek someone of equal or greater training. Don't go to an optometrist for a second opinion after seeing an ophthalmologist.
