A member asked:

I am 33 now, my power is -8d in le and -9d in re, -1 cylin, i started wearing specs when i as 14, do i suffer from degenerative myopia, how is it diagnosed?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably not: Degenerative (pathological) myopia is a progressive disease. There are macular changes , staphylomas & peripheral changes. It is seen more often in higher myopes but not necessarily so. Sometimes a -10 can be a simple high myopia and a -4.50 show signs of pathological myopia. A good retinal exam by an eye md can rule it out.
