It depends: some insurance carriers require their insurees to see a family doctor or internal medicine doctor first who would then refer the patient to a gynecologist for the ovary pain. in other instances the patient can make her appointment directly with the gynecologist.Drs. front desk personnel typically know when a patient will need a referral.
