A member asked:

My 4 year old has a wbc of 5000 and monocytes are 10.2? a month ago his wbc was 4700 and monocytes were 12.7! any ideas? toddb78@aol.com asap please!

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably OK: These numbers are not necessarily a problem. Both WBC are in the normal range and the change is not something that would concern me. The monocytes are slightly higher than normal, but probably ok. Viruses can cause a slight elevation in monocytes. There is a lot of information in a CBC and it might be helpful to talk to the ordering doctor about the reason for the test and the full interpretation.
