Why use a number?: Just say; "the cut on the wrist was so deep that it transected the radial artery, and the blood spurted out rhythmically and profusely.".

Less then 1/2 inch: The radial artery is 3-5mm below the skin on the thumb side. The ulnar artery is 4-6mm on the little finger side. When one completely cuts an artery at the wrist it usually clots off any you do not die. Partial lacerations keep bleeding.
