Kidneys and Protein: There is no easy answer to this question. However, significant amounts of consumed protein or Amino Acids can offer a significant solute load to the kidneys. That, along with inadequate hydration, can put one at risk for renal (kidney) damage. There have been numerous case reports of young athletes going into renal failure due to high protein consumption and inadequate hydration.
