Protein supplements: Protein supplements are safe. Best is whey protein powder as a shake. Other excellent sources of protein: Egg white is superior to all. Quinoa is excellent. Beans and lentils are excellent. Milk protein is excellent. Whole grains are good but not sufficient. Nuts are excellent. Yogurt is excellent.

Good idea: Assuming your kidney function is adequate, you can supplement the protein amounts in your diet and keep it on the leaner side with protein drinks. No need to exceed one gram of protein per kilogram of body weight for general health purposes. Weight training will build mass but include cardio to keep your muscles defined.
