A member asked:

Noticed there is a serious interaction between flomax, which i was just prescribed, and gleevec, but none with sprycel, (dasatinib) which i take for cml. correct?

Increase serum Floma: Gleevec increases serum levels of flomax, and therefore dosage adjustment may be necessary. Flomax is metabolized through cyp3a4 and sprycel (dasatinib) is also a substrate for cyp3a4, so may also increase the levels of flomax.

The concern: Between Gleevec and Flomax, is that Gleevec inhibits a particular enzymes(cytochrome 3A4 and to a lesser extent 2D6) which metabolize Flomax. This can lead to higher levels of Flomax in your system and more at risk for associated adverse effects like low blood pressure and dizziness. Sprycel (dasatinib) inhibits 3A4 but much less than Gleevec so it should be less of an interaction/issue.
