Rephrase question: The normal axial length of an eye is around 24mm. As the eye get longer than 24mm it will usually produce more myopia or nearsightedness. This can be measured in negative diopters (ie -3.00 diopters). Therefore an eye that is growing in axial length greater than 24mm will have a corresponding increasing measurement in negative diopters. Highly nearsighted patients have long eyes and large rxs.
