A member asked:

Can you tell me how could antibiotic resistant tb evolve?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Drug resistant TB: The tubercle bacillus that causes TB is very slow growing, and requires consistent, long term treatment to eradicate. Multi-drug resistant and extensively drug resistant TB have come about largely due to inadequate treatment that has allowed for drug resistance to emerge. If one doesn't take the drugs for the full course some bacilli will survive and may then become drug resistant.
