Well, how much? : That may happen, and some or most of it may be genetic. If dad is 5' 6", 200 lbs, the simple fact is that your child's weight percentile may always be higher. Sometimes the weight percentile is a little higher. The more important measurement is the bmi, or body mass index, which gives a much better predictor of obesity. Concentrate on a calorie appropriate, healthy diet with low carb snacks.

See below: As long as your child is staying on track, that is not crossing the percentile lines on the growth chart, the fact that one is higher than the other is not important.
