Friend has had an issue of randomly getting an iron taste in his mouth since he was young. any idea what this is or what it means?

Many causes: There are many possible causes of having a metallic taste in your mouth, ranging from medicines to systemic disorders to environmental hazards. Could be supplements, meds, dental fillings that may be leaking, etc. Any doubt, go get tested to make sure that everything is ok.

Iron or metallic: Taste in the mouth can be due to gum disease poor oral hygiene , medications like antibiotics- biaxin, (clarithromycin) flagyl, captopril- high blood pressure, griseofulvin- antifungal, lithium-bipolar disorder , too much copper in the body, drugs used in cancer patients or just simply breakdown of blood cells, iron is released and causes a metallic taste in the mouth.If concerned, please consult with your physician.

Small bleeding?: Possible a small bleeder in his mouth from his gums.Blood taste like iron. If that is not the case then it s something more likely neurological. Not serious though.
