Red spots: Hard to say without a visual exam. Sounds like you may be getting an ulcer. If it does not heal in 7-10 days, have it examined by a dentist.

Many possibilities: It could be as simple as trauma and be as much as a viral infection. My rule of thumb is that if it doesn't heal in 14 days see your health care provider, probably a dentist in this situation.
