Yes you can: This is a degenerative condition of the growth plate of the patellar ligament attachment to the tibia. If it is a chronic problem, you may need a small surgery to scrape out the degenerative area attachment of the ligament to the bone.

Yes: You should back off to the point were it does not hurt. Crutches or a brace may be necessary. Continuing to play through pain may result in a disasterous fracture. Take heed, you are smart to ask. Once walking doesn't hurt than you may try to jog. Once that doesn't hurt then try to run. Really should consult with an orthopaedist.
