Wait for mri: Answer lies with mr which demonstrates very nicely whether ligaments are torn. Stretched, or crushed. Damage to cartilage in joint is also demonstrated. Once damaged parts defined, the orthopedic surgeon would determine therapy, whether surgery, physical therapy, etc.
