Hand Surgery 35 years experience
Injury, : Injury, infection, stroke, blood clots, allergic reaction, rash, all can cause swelling
other causes are "wrapping" when one has a tight bandage or watch or band placed around the wrist, trauma to the back of the hand from work or activity or self inflicted, lymphedema after an axillary dissection or associated with an infection, nerve disorders, arthritis, tendonitis the list goes on.
One must understand these in the context of what the working diagnosis has been that promoted these studies to be ordered.
