Usually Harmless: Ovalocytes by themselves are harmless. In a hereditary condition ovalocytes may constitue about 25% of red blood cells. Lesser numbers of circulating ovalocytes may be present in various anemias including megaloblastic, sideroblastic, iron deficiency, and in thalassemias.

Had blood work done and would love to know what the following means. Mpv 9.5 WBC 9.65 RDW 15.4 anisocytosis 1+a ovalocytes 2+a co2 23.
Recent blood results came back that were confusing to me. My WBC is 2.5, rbc 2.9, hgb 11.3, platelets 111. But then it also has ovalocytes 1+, macrocytes 2+, dacryocyte 1+, myelocytes 1%, and occasional smudge cells. What does this mean?
