Not really: Obesity is caused by overeating and not exercising. This happens depending on how much food is available and whether their jobs require had labor. I've seen studies indicating that in the poor nations, people who actually have enough to eat average fatter than the middle and upper classes in the developed world. I see little value in comparing groups and generalizing about "cultures" or whatever.
