Typically Not.: Blood tinged sputum is blood in the "spit". This could be something simple as an infection to more severe issues. There is typical a small inflammation in the distal airways that cause this. More severe conditions could be an erosion of the blood vessel or inflammation of these. This is a more serious condition. Need to follow up with your md if this is ongoing. "cuts" to the lung typically not.
