Surgical incisions: It is not necessary to apply antibiotic creams to a surgical incision that is healing well and without signs of infection. Dressing changes as advised by your surgeon and cleansing with mild soap and water is usually all that is needed. If the incision looks infected, you need to see your doctor; sometimes this requires a small procedure to clean the wound, +/- antibiiotics.
