Call Dr if worried: Sounds like he is ok, as long as feeds / plays / pees / etc., in usual pattern, then safe to wait. Any change in "usual" should get him to the er. But his pediatrician should know best and should be able to call the on-call and ask to be sure.

Wait: You can wait until you can see your pediatrician. A cough without a fever is not a medical emergency.
