Use of nasal saline and gently suctioning the mucus is just as effective. The cough syrup has side effects and is best avoided at this age. Monitor temperature, test for COVID-19. Antibiotics for pneumonia or other bacterial cause.

All cold & cough preparations in the US have been discouraged for decades in infants/children under 6, after research found them of little or no benefit & some risk of harm. Nasal saline wash, proper nutrition & time are the best rx for infants.
