Ophthaine: Ophthaine (proparacaine hcl) has been around for decades as a simple local eyeball numbing medicine.There is likely to be many others around now but this is the one I have used in the past.

Topical anesthetic : Commonly used to "numb" the eye prior to applanation tonometry are: proparacaine, tetracaine, ; benoxinate. The first two need an addition of a flourescein strip to color the drop, whereas the latter, the flourescein is already in the bottle.
