A member asked:

Have yearly exam done by optometrist and prescription check for contacts. he did not see that optic nerve damage was present and find glaucoma. why?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Presume: Well i presume your optometrist checked your eye pressure and performed a dilated eye exam to evaluate the back part of the eye, which would include the retina, optic nerve and blood vessels. After the exam if no damage to your optic nerve is seen, and your eye pressure is reasonable, then further testing would not be indicated. A logical conclusion is that you don't have glaucoma. If concerns--md.
