Therapy + Christian: Christian therapists are not a homogenous group in terms of psychoanalytical orientation and technique. Someone who advertises their services as a "christian" therapist is usually a therapist (of any psychoanalytical persuasion) who integrates christianity-based spiritual counseling into their psychotherapeutic work.

I Thess 5:21: Christian counselors are a mixed bunch. If someone counsels you to put the past behind you, teaches you how to keep bitterness, gloom, and "the spirit of fear" from your mind and heart, and walk in love, then you have found a pearl of great price. If you are urged to hate anyone, or to put your hand to the plow and look back, you have a wolf in sheep's clothing -- get away.

"Christian" is a: Religion. Psychology is a scientific discipline. Being a "christian" therapist adds nothing to the therapist's skill or training. It just implies a philosophical bias within which the therapist may operate. Competent, ethical therapists can work effectively with people from various religious backgrounds. Psychologist ethics require avoiding bias and being open about limits of competence.

Point of view: Competent therapists counsel from one or more orientations offering therapy a direction rather than moving along aimlessly. These are most often based in theoretical/philosophical principles developed and "proven" over time. While interventions may be similar regardless of orientation, the interpretation may be different. Christian counseling interprets outcomes from a Christian worldview.
