Progesterone: A corpus luteum cyst is where the egg emerged from the ovary. This cyst turns into a little "hormone factory", producing lots of the hormone Progesterone in the early part of a pregnancy. By about 10 weeks of pregnancy the placenta has become established and takes over making the Progesterone that an early pregnancy needs.
