A member asked:

This causes the corpus luteum to decline. how is it possible for the corpus luteum to degenerate at this point, yet the uterine lining remains intact during the rest of the pregnancy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The Placenta!: The corpus luteum supports the lining of the uterus during the first 8-10 weeks of pregnancy by producing large quantities of Progesterone. As the placenta enlarges, it takes over the production of Progesterone so that the corpus luteum is no longer needed and can go away. Best wishes!
