Decongestants: With your history of tachycardia you should avoid decongestants like sudafed and nose drops which can increase heart rate and blood pressure. Treat your nasal congestion with nasal irrigations using warm salt water and take antihistamines like claritin(plain) or benadryl(which can cause drowsiness). A corticosteroid nasal spray like Nasonex (mometasone) may help. Warm soups promote nasal drainage.
