Difference: The blood pressure in both arms is normally pretty equal but may vary a few points and still be ok. If there is a significant difference then the higher reading is considered the proper one, and one must suspect some sort of blockage or kinking in the arm with the lower reading. Have your physician document the accurate BP readings in both arms however.

The flow to the right arm typically arises first, before the artery supplying flow to the left arm. Coarctation is a narrowing of the aorta and can involve the origin of blood supply to the left arm. Coarctation is an important cause of hypertension.
