A member asked:

How many nights can i go without sleep before its considered insomnia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It's always insomnia: If it occurs for less than two months, it is acute insomnia. If it lasts for two months or longer, it is chronic insomnia. Worrying about sleep, "trying" to go to sleep, and lying awake in bed for hours will turn acute insomnia into chronic insomnia. Don't fight it. A few sleepless nights is not the end of the world. If you're not asleep in 20-30 minutes, get up and read until you're drowsy.
